In December, Wild Atlantic Distillery in Northern Ireland will launch The IslandMen 1921, the company’s first whiskey. The whiskey will be released on December 21, marking the first time since 1921 that whiskey was made in County Tyrone and Derry. The brand seeks to ‘revive the proud history’ of Irish whiskey distillation there.
Founded in 2019, Wild Atlantic Distillery in Aghyaran, County Tyrone, produces gin and vodka. Drawing on cask 001, the distillery plans to produce around 380 bottles.
The IslandMen 1921 was distilled at the distillery and laid down on 21 December 2021. When the whiskey is disgorged, the final number of bottles will be revealed this December.
With detailed plans to pick up where the innovators left off, the distillery wrote.
The wild, rugged and beautiful land around the Wild Atlantic Distillery nurtures the perfect conditions for creating & ageing our traditionally crafted Irish whiskey. The Atlantic Ocean provides the botanicals for our unique & distinctive gin.
Wild Atlantic Distillery Rolls Out Inaugural Whisky
The IslandMen 1921 Release honors the year in which the last distillery in the region, Watt Distillery, closed.
“We are proud to continue the long history of traditional distilling in this region,” said the co-founders of Wild Atlantic Distillery, Brian Ash and Jim Nash.
“IslandMen Irish whiskey represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and celebrates the resilience, passion, and spirit of the Irish people.”
Bottles of the limited edition whiskey will be available for sale only through a lottery held at the distillery’s website before 14 December. Buyers are encouraged to register at the distillery’s website by entering a ballot. No news has been released about the whiskey’s ABV and price.
The company published an invitation on its website stating: Join us in celebrating a legacy of craftsmanship that hasn’t been seen in over 100 years. Launching on the 21st of December, secure your place on the lottery for a chance to be among the select few who can claim this exclusive release.
