As Christmas approaches, everyone is eagerly searching for their preferred whisky. Great news for Austrians as spirits distributor Salud Spirits brings a 12-year-old Loch Lomond whisky aged in a Madeira hogshead cask.
Salud Austria, the Austrian branch of Dutch bottler Salud Spirits, is releasing a special batch of Loch Lomond Distillery single malt whisky to commemorate the holiday season. This means new shoppers and fans won’t have to search hard. The bottle of Salud’s best is already here.
Unfortunately, only 205 bottles of this unpeated single cask expression will be available. The spirit was distilled in 2011 and matured for 12 years in a Madeira hogshead.
The 55.3% ABV whisky has juicy cherry and fragrant clove aromas, along with candied orange peel, baked red apple, cinnamon, and golden syrup, say the Loch Lomond team.

“Great, super fruity whisky with a beautiful color offers a lot,” said Bernhard Rems, a whisky expert and one of the first to taste the expression.
“Great, super fruity whisky with a beautiful color offers a lot. Apples, pears, candy floss, cocktail cherries – although a tad alcoholic. It even has some grassy notes and a hint of almonds—a lot to like. It’s very nice and a great example of what the stills can do.”
Like Rems, you find the new Loch Lamond 12-year-old at online merchants and liquor stores in Austria. Last month, Loch Lomond Distillery released its new Waypoint Series.
One of Salud Spirits‘ most well-known brands is the 7even Gods of Fortune line of Japanese single malts, Chichibu. In addition, Waterford Irish whiskey and Crystal Head Vodka are among the products distributed by the firm.
Salud Spirits rolled out production in February 2008 at the location in Saitama Prefecture, which is approximately 70 km northwest of Tokyo. The equipment includes a small mill, a mash tun, washbacks made from Japanese Mizunara oak, and copper stills from Forsyths of Rothes in Scotland. Bourbon, sherry, and hogshead barrels are among the many kinds utilized. The aging process takes place in a traditional dunnage warehouse.
