To make good on a Stanley Cup wager, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith sent two bottles of Foothills whisky to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
“I just received two bottles of Canadian whisky,” DeSantis said in a video on X, posted on July 22. “This looks really, really, good.”
According to the Albertan, Smith sent a bottle of Sweet Sippin’ Original Maple Whisky from Highwood Distillery. In addition, he sent a bottle of Canadian Rye Whisky from Eau Claire Distillery. Highwood Distillery is in High River and Eau Claire Distillery is in Diamond Valley.
Celebrating the event, the Governor expressed his gratitude to the Premier on his X account/ He wrote”
Thank you, @ABDanielleSmith, for sending us Canadian whiskey in honor of our Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers. Florida may be the most tropical state in the United States… yet we have held the Stanley Cup for 3 of the last 5 years between the Lightning and Panthers. Florida has become a hockey state!
Political Leaders Celebrate Hockey Bet With Foothills Whiskies
The news article further shared that DeSantis said the whiskies will be served at the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee, Florida. The two leaders bet on the Stanley Cup final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers. The Panthers, DeSantis team, were victorious and became the current Stanley Cup champion.
“It all rided on Game 7, and the Panthers were able to pull it out,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis said Florida boasts three of the last five Stanley Cup champions.
“We’re the most tropical state in the United States, and yet, we’ve now become a really strong hockey state.”
In a separate piece on the High River Online, the NHL bet was made way back in June. Back then both leaders committed to award beverages. The Governor received the gift from Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, fulfilling a wager they made about the Stanley Cup finals. If Edmonton won, DeSantis would ship Smith some Florida Rum, and if Florida wons, Smith would ship him some Alberta whisky.
