Dekantā is celebrating its tenth anniversary with the launch of a special 6-year-old Japanese whisky. The spirit hails from the whisky from the Wakatsuru Saburomaru Distillery, one of the leading local brands.
In 2015, the online retailer opened its doors with a huge display of rare expressions and unique decanters. Years later, Dekantā became popular for launching its own independent bottling range featuring rare single malts and exclusive blends.
However, the recognized service by the retailer is the cask ownership scheme in partnership with Japanese whisky makers. The program has allowed whisky enthusiasts to co-own whisky editions and series, while allowing distillers to raise needed investments.
Dekantā Celebrates 10th Anniversary with 6YO Japanese Whisky
According to Dekantā founder Makiyo Masa, the real tribute of these celebrations is to the distillers and partners who have placed their trust in him.
“As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we reflect with gratitude on the journey we’ve taken and the community that has supported us.
“From our valued customers and talented partners to the incredible distilleries and artists we work with, this milestone belongs to all of you. We look forward to continuing our mission of bringing the best whiskies from Japan to the rest of the world.”
It may surprise you to understand how far the celebration has taken Dekantā. The single cask Japanese whisky was created at the Wakatsuru Saburomaru Distillery in the city of Tonami, located in the Toyama prefecture.
A blog post on the Spirit Business describes the 6-year-old whisky as having a unique aroma with a moderate ABV.
“The whisky has been aged for more than six years in a first-fill Bourbon barrel. It was distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2025 with an ABV of 56%.
“The resulting liquid offers an aroma of coastal smoke, Islay peat laced with sea air and notes of toasted marshmallow, vanilla pod, and charred coconut.”
