The Ayrshire-based distillery Lochlea has released a new limited edition whisky as it heats up the celebration of its sixth anniversary. The spirit represents the second age statement by the brand in two years.
Last year, Lochlea rolled out its first age-statement whisky, breaking records as the expression sold out on its first day. The five-year-old was made from casks pitched to mature in the distillery’s inaugural year, 2018.
2025 is a year of novelties for the distillery. Besides the new whisky, there is a new master distiller managing the company’s flavors. Jill Boyd is replacing John Campbell, who stepped down last year.
Lochlea Rolls Out New Limited Edition Whisky
The new limited-edition whisky contains a special blend of three Bourbon barrels and three oloroso Sherry casks. Boyd shared his choice of flavors and his joy at joining the distillery team.
“It’s been such a pleasure to start my time at Lochlea with the creation of our six-year-old single malt.
“Three oloroso casks provide a rich depth, with flavors of juicy, ripe berries, sticky dates, and candied ginger. Complementing this, three Bourbon barrels add a touch of sweetness, with delicate vanilla and light caramel lending a brightness that allows the fruit and sweetness from all six casks to truly shine.
“The finish is rich and lingering, with silky tannins and warm oak spices rounding out the whisky.”
According to Darren McCormick, general manager, the anniversary edition will launch on 24 January, just one day before the Burns Night on 25 January. The celebration will bring poets and musicians from across the world together as they remember a beloved poet.
Robert Burns was a former resident of the same land where the Lochlea Farm hosts the distillery. The poet lived and worked on the farm from 1777 to 1784.
Whisky enthusiasts are encouraged to pre-order early, as only 2,500 bottles of the anniversary edition will be available.
