Several spooky whiskies have been put out by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society for Halloween. If you’re into sherried whisky, this might be just what you’re looking for. Hot on the list is Annochmore’s 16 Year Old ‘The Devil Drinks Oloroso’.
Notably, this is a whisky distilled in 2006. The whisky spent 13 years in a bourbon barrel before a 3-year finishing period in an Oloroso barrel. The cocoa nibs, nutmeg, and bitter chocolate truffles conspired in a deep abyss to corrupt ignorant almonds, chestnuts, and tangy orange skin.
In addition, the devil’s tobacco pipe scorched hot cross buns and oak as it emitted black tea and coffee from behind a mound of cinnamon sticks and licorice.

However, holy water delivered nut husk from evil and blessed us with heavenly orange blossoms, dried fruit, and Turkish delight. Initially aged in a bourbon hogshead for 13 years before being transferred to a Spanish oak oloroso barrel for an additional 13 years.
Interestingly, the Speyside-based Mannochmore Distilleries rarely produces single malts. The most common bottling is Diageo’s Flora & Fauna 12 Year Old. However, ‘The Devil Drinks Oloroso’ is one of its most popular releases. The spirits was rolled out in 2006 and has become an annual Halloween treat for whisky enthusiasts.
Settling with an ABV of 55.6%, the expression was matured in 1st fill ex-oloroso hogshead for sixteen years. Since 2006, the spirit has sold out stocks at each Halloween, making it one of the distillery’s top sellers.
Among the Mannochmore whiskies, the Loch Dhu 10 Year Old The Black Whisky is perhaps the most famous. Controversial due to its alleged overuse of spirit caramel, this opaque, viscous whisky has seen some divisive reviews online. It has been voted as “the worst whisky in the world.” This may be a marketing gimmick used by the company.
