Dalmore Expands Vintage Collection with new Whisky

Two new spirits were recently added to The Dalmore whisky portfolio as the brand unveiled The Vintage Collection 2024. The new series comprises two whiskies distilled in 2006 and 2009.

The Dalmore Vintage 2009 was first matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, followed by a double maturation in Gonzalez Byass Matusalem sherry casks and Graham’s 10-year-old Tawny Port casks.

The distillery has an exclusive partnership with two winemakers, as first demonstrated by the first two editions of The Dalmore’s Cask Curated Series, released in 2023 and 2024.

Greg Glass, Whisky Master at The Dalmore, said of the 2009 Vintage: Sweet vanilla, creamy caramel and delicate gingerbread notes.

“This unique spirit is first refined in 30-year-old Matusalem Oloroso sherry casks from our exclusive partner Gonzalez Byass, giving the whisky a touch of antique oak. The whisky then spends further time in 10-year-old Tawny Port casks from our partner Graham’s Port, bringing elements of dark plum, manuka honey and gentle wood spice.

“The Dalmore Vintage 2009 is best served with water unless you prefer it over ice or bottle strength, and is an excellent match with game and fruity desserts.” An 18-year-old single malt aged in American white oak ex-bourbon casks and then in Matusalem Oloroso and Amoroso sherry casks.

Glass comments on the 2006 vintage: “This exquisite whisky has deep vanilla, sweet caramel, and honey notes from aging in first-fill American white oak ex-bourbon barrels. These flavors are interwoven with ancient aromas created by aging in exclusively sourced 30-year-old Matusalem Oloroso sherry casks and 30-year-old Amoroso sherry casks.

“The influence of the Matusalem casks brings dark chocolate, rich berry, and woody notes, while the Amoroso casks bring sherry-soaked raisins and slightly dry, almost aromatic herbs,” he concluded. The result is a rich, powerful single malt whisky with layers of rich, warm flavors that intertwine. The Dalmore Vintage 2006 pairs well with Spanish tapas, cheese platters, or sweet treats like dark chocolate truffles. “Enjoy this whisky with ice or neat, like the 2009 Vintage, depending on your preference.

Both vintages are not chill filtered and are limited editions bottled at specially selected alcoholic strengths: 48.9% in the 2009″ and 47.2% in the 2006.

The Dalmore Vintage Collection will be available from this month (November) from selected stockists and retailers. Recommended retail prices are £173 (US$225) for the 2009 Vintage and £403 (US$500) for the 2006 Vintage.

The annual Dalmore Vintage Collection showcases the distillery’s unique character and celebrates over 50 years of whisky-making tradition.

Every November for 50 years, the makers of Dalmore whisky have personally assessed and smelled each cask in each of the distillery’s warehouses in Alness.

According to the distillery team, the best time to evaluate the casks is in November. After the warm summer months, “the cooler temperatures allow the distillate to shine.”
